Fernanda Belga Ottoni Porto

DOI: 10.17545/eOftalmo/2023.0040

In 2023, eOftalmo's sections underwent essential transformations, and we ended the year celebrating a continuous evolution in the pursuit of scientific and educational excellence. Throughout this year, our Jounal endeavored to enhance the reader's experience and expand the reach of ophthalmological knowledge through elaborate sections and cutting-edge content.

Images and Perspectives Section

We have further enriched this section by presenting detailed images of examinations, illustrative clinical cases, and crucial ophthalmological procedures. These images complement the articles and offer a deeper understanding of clinically important entities.

Scientific Videos: A New Dimension in Education

Under the vision of Prof. Fernando Trindade1, we introduced an era of scientific videos. We acknowledge the power of dynamic images over static ones and acknowledge that video facilitates memorization and synthesizes complex information engagingly. This format has become an essential tool for education and information in the field of ophthalmology and all areas of human knowledge.

In this volume, we highlight a remarkable video presenting gene therapy with Luxturna® (voretigene neparvovec) for retinal dystrophies related to the RPE65 gene. This revolutionary procedure is presented in detail, illustrating its innovative surgical technique that represents a milestone in precision medicine and advanced therapies. The inclusion of this video reinforces our commitment to providing cutting-edge educational material that contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and the advancement of ophthalmological practice.

Special Editions: Broadening Horizons in Ophthalmology

We highlight two special editions this year: "Mastering the art of vitreoretinal surgery"2 and "Neurophthalmology by imaging"3, led by renowned specialists such as Juliana Prazeres, Fábio Ejzenbaum, and Leonardo Provetti Cunha. These editions delve into crucial topics, offering readers illustrative cases and articles that are fundamental to understand these complex areas.

Traditional Contributions: Clinical Cases and Narrative Literature Reviews

eOftalmo continues its tradition of highlighting challenging clinical cases and promoting narrative literature reviews. These key sections offer valuable insights and encourage critical reflection on scientific advances.

Invitation to Contribute to eOftalmo

We emphatically invite the ophthalmic community to contribute their studies and findings to eOftalmo. This official publication of the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology s a privileged space for peer-reviewed publications, offering open access to content in Portuguese and English.

Since 2015, eOftalmo has been a prominent presence in the field, using multiple platforms and renowned indexes such as Google Scholar, Latindex, Scilit, and LivRe to disseminate research and foster professional development and continued education. Join us on this journey of sharing and advancement in ophthalmology!

This final volume of 2023 is a celebration of progress, a tribute to collaborative efforts, and a promise of continued commitment to scientific excellence. We wish to thank all the authors, reviewers, collaborators, and readers for their participation in this journey.
