The purpose of the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology stated by its bylaws is to bring together Brazilian ophthalmologists and act as an extensive system of ophthalmology in Brazil. The bylaws also dictate the Council to encourage and stimulate growth in the education in ophthalmology offered at medical schools and graduate, specialization, continued education, and training courses, as well as internships. Additionally, the Council must oversee, evaluate, accredit, and discredit institutions that teach specialization courses in ophthalmology, periodically monitoring the quality of training offered.

In this scenario, the eOftalmo journal is a valuable and essential tool to improve the learning of ophthalmology in accredited services and residence programs. The study of clinical cases provides an unparalleled methodology in the distribution of logical thinking and the analysis of differential diagnoses and ophthalmological conducts. Particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, case reports published methodically in eOftalmo have enormously contributed to the field of ophthalmology. Our editorial line follows this path, and therefore, we intend to continually improve the quality of our publication.
